Today I’m sharing a super cute and feminine sewing project — a ruffle zipper pouch. It’s perfect for storing makeup, coins, earbuds, or small travel essentials. It also makes a beautiful handmade gift! 💗

This project is beginner-friendly and a great way to practice sewing ruffles and installing a zipper.

🧵 Materials You’ll Need

  • Cotton fabric (outer fabric)

  • Cotton fabric (lining)

  • Zipper (about 18–20 cm / 7–8 inches)

  • Batting or interfacing (optional, for extra structure)

  • Sewing machine

  • Scissors

  • Pins or clips

  • Iron

✂️ Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cut Your Fabric

Cut your outer fabric, lining fabric, and batting (if using). For the ruffle, cut a long narrow strip of fabric.

2. Make the Ruffle

Set your stitch length to the maximum setting and sew two rows of gathering stitches along one long edge of the ruffle strip.

Gently pull the top threads to gather the fabric.Spread the gathers evenly.

3. Mark the Ruffle Placement

Mark on the main fabric where the ruffle should start and end.Place the ruffle right sides together with the outer fabric and pin in place.

Sew the ruffle in place.

4. Install the Zipper

Place the zipper between the outer fabric and the lining, right sides together.Sew along the zipper edge.Repeat for the other side.

Press the seams flat and topstitch if desired for a neat finish.

5. Sew the Pouch Together

Place the outer pieces right sides together and the lining pieces right sides together.Sew all around, leaving a small gap in the lining for turning.

Trim the excess fabric and clip the corners carefully.

6. Turn and Finish

Turn the pouch right side out through the opening.Push out the corners gently and press everything with an iron.

Close the gap in the lining by sewing it shut.Topstitch around the pouch if you’d like a polished look.

💕 Final Result

Your ruffle zipper pouch is now complete — cute, practical, and handmade with love!

Experiment with different fabrics, colors, and prints to make each pouch unique. This project is perfect for gifts or for selling in your handmade shop.
