Looking for an easy and practical sewing project? In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a beautiful quilted laptop sleeve using a free sewing pattern. This beginner-friendly DIY project is perfect for protecting your laptop while adding a handmade touch.
This pattern is designed to fit:
MacBook Pro 13 inch
MacBook Air 13 inch
You can also resize the pattern to fit other laptop sizes.
✂️ Materials You’ll Need
Outer fabric
Lining fabric
Batting
Strong Velcro
Optional tags
Basic sewing tools (pins, scissors, ruler, sewing machine)
🧵 How to Sew a Quilted Laptop Sleeve
1. Prepare the Fabric
Draw two guide lines on the outer fabric to help you start quilting.Place the outer fabric on top of the batting and secure it with pins.
2. Quilt the Fabric
Quilt all layers together. For larger projects like this, I like to leave my quilting lines about 5 cm apart.
3. Assemble the Sleeve
Once quilting is done, place the lining fabric right sides together with the quilted outer fabric.Pin in place and leave an opening for turning later.Sew all the way around.
Turn the sleeve right side out and carefully shape the corners using a corner tool or scissors.
4. Measure the Fit
Use your own laptop to check the correct size. This ensures your sleeve won’t be too small.Mark where the pocket fold should begin.
5. Close the Opening
Topstitch along the edge where you left the opening to close it neatly.
6. Add the Velcro
Measure your Velcro to the desired length (I cut mine 10 cm long).To make placement easier, use double-sided tape to hold the Velcro in place before sewing.
Place:
One piece about 2.5 cm from the top
The second piece 6 cm down from the edge
Sew the Velcro securely in place.
7. Final Assembly
Fold the sleeve at the marked line, pin it in place, and sew all around.
